The Squawkatiel's Dozen #4

Sorry for taking so long to get this one up. I have some things going on in my life right now that have taken away time for me to do a lot of extra stuff for Flight of the Squawkatiel. I still plan on doing my show for at least one more year, but I need to concentrate more on my actual work and other things in my life.

As always, here are six songs available to download for free, and six more that aren't free downloads, but are worth a listen.

For free downloads this time, there are two new singles from the label Captured Tracks: Craft Spells' latest as well as the debut single from the newest addition to their roster Donovan Blanc. Plus, Manicanparty are back with the first single from their 2nd EP. Also check out the songs from Ava Luna, Jingo and Chirping.







These next songs are not available for free, but you should still check them out. The Snow is a new band on Captured Tracks featuring Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing, Dustin Payseur of Beach Fossils, and ____ of Holograms. I'm very excited about this, as well as the new track from Kitten, which is the first taste of their debut full-length which comes out in June. Also: a new song from Strung Out frontman Jason Cruz and his latest project, the solo debut of Emma Ruth Rundle of Sargent House bands Marriages and Red Sparowes, the latest from British band The Kooks, and a promising track from JAWS.

Playlist for 4/9/14: Sigur Rós wins Squawkatiel Madness 2014

This week's show saw the end of Squawkatiel Madness. After 3 weeks of voting, it came down to Real Estate and Sigur Rós as the final two bands left standing, and Sigur Rós claimed the victory by 1 vote. The second hour of the show was dedicated to their music, including a remix and a couple songs from their lead vocalist Jonsi's solo album Go.

After three weeks of voting and 64 Flight of the Squawkatiel artist competing for the title of the 2nd annual Squawkatiel Madness Champion, one band remains. Who did you vote as your favorite Flight of the Squawkatiel artist of the year?

Squawkatiel Madness: The Final Round!

The votes for the semifinals are in and we have our two bands who will compete in the final match to win the title of 2014's Squawkatiel Madness champion!

The final two bands are...

Real Estate and Sigur Rós!

One of these bands will get the second hour of Wednesday's show dedicated to their music (and side projects, plus remixes, covers and other cool stuff). But you will decide who it will be!

Squawkatiel Madness Round 4 Results: The Feathered Four!

Voting has ended for Round 4 of Squawkatiel Madness 2014! Let's see who you chose as your Feathered Four...

First we have Beach Fossils, who, after beating Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks 5-2, have made it to the Feathered Four for the second time. Last year, they lost to eventual champion Beach House in the semifinals. Can they make it to the championship this year?

This time, they will be facing Real Estate, who beat Washed Out by just one vote in one of the most competitive matches there's been this year. Washed Out had an impressive run, knocking out popular artists like Vampire Weekend and Kurt Vile to get here.

Tennis is the most surprising band in the Final Four. They were in Squawkatiel Madness last year but lost to Japandroids in the second round. You seem to really like them this year, as they easily defeated Dr. Dog, 5-2.

Finally, Sigur Ros is in the Feathered Four after taking on some heavyweights like Arcade Fire, Gogol Bordello and Daft Punk, who they narrowly edged out by one vote in the last round.

This has been a close tournament so far and I could see any one of these four bands winning this thing. But who will it be? The winner will get the second hour of next week's show dedicated to their music.
